The Hermes is one of the most important elements of Operation Phoenix. Without the Hermes, the battle groups would jump into a battle situation blindly. The Hermes uses the new pseudo-hyperphase technology to detect objects in realspace.

Durring battle the Hermes acts as the hub for communications. It is in constant communication with the attacking ships correlating data and producing highly sophisticated firing solutions. This allows attacking ships to fight more effectively.

The Hermes is also outfitted with the ETS-2 Stealth System so that it is safe from chance attacks in hyperspace. Like the Archangel class Missile Destroyer, if the Hermes which co-ordinates all attacks for the battlegroups is destroyed, the entire battlegroup must return to the Sparta class Mobile Operations Centre for a new Hermes.

The Hermes is relatively small and has a relatively small crew. It also uses only gravimetric drives, to add to the Hermes' stealth abilities. The Hermes also uses the Advanced Daemon Re-Enfoced Armour's optical stealth coating, making it nearly impossible to detect.
